It's Not About What You Drive, It's How Mint You Keep It

As I get older I notice that a driven vehicle that is flawless is really what grabs attention, especially when the owner hasn’t restored or stored the car. I saw the cleanest mid-90s Honda Accord Sedan in the world two years ago and I still cant get it out of my head. Seeing a car in mint condition, not just excellent for its age but flawless by all vehicular standards, just...I dont know. Feels right.

Mmph!

I like to look at old pictures of cars that have lost their charm due to only seeing dirty versions all over the street. The “300N” looks great, and Im ashamed for forgetting that. Ralph Gilles is freaking badass by the way, we need an AMA with him!

Even those old Cloudy-named Dodge cars and their Chrysler siblings look pretty damn good.

Agreed.

Unfortunately, keeping a car in that sort of condition while putting 2k miles on it each month, doing track days and autox, and street parking with no garage or driveway is an effort that requires more free time than I’ve got. haha Good thing is, my car is new enough that getting it back to brand new condition wouldn’t be too difficult. It would require at the least a touch-up paint job.

Agree, this weekend I’m adding an insulated hot water to the driveway side spigot so that I can hand wash year round!

What does fresh breath have to do with anything? Drive hard and put it away hot. I used to see Camilo Pardo around Detroit at parties. It was awesome to see him street park a dirty Ford GT in the hood. Like write your name on the back becasue the grime was so built up, dirty.

I probably added a few scratches last weekend to my car but fuck it, I had fun.

You would have like my cavalier. It was probably in excellent condition. 234,000 kms and definitely amongst the top 5% of survivors left. Especially give it came from ontario where salt is life.

I want to swap the 300 SRT8 nose onto a magnum, and drop a 6.4 or hellcat in it.

Agreed. Hoping to return the V50 to its glory years once we have some extra cash floating around. It’s the ultimate daily; roomy, relaxing, and spacious. I just wish I could get better fuel economy out of five cylinders...

As I get older I notice that a driven vehicle that is flawless is really what grabs attention, especially when the owner hasn’t restored or stored the car.

I only marginally agree with that. Sure, a clean 90s Camry would catch my attention, but I really gawk at the people driving decently kept 30+ year old cars.

Flawless doesn’t matter on those, just the fact that they’re willing to live with the inconveniences of non-efi (or temperamental early EFI) just to live with their chosen flavor of car is admirable to me.

Of course, there are exceptions... If the car has plastic covering a window or red tape over a broken taillight, I’m not as awed, if at all. It’s obvious that you’re not a fan of the car you’re driving if you’re not doing basic repairs to keep it on the road.

I remember seeing an early-90's Toyota Camry one time. Completely inconspicuous car normally, but this one was incredibly clean. It was practically factory fresh. I still haven’t gotten it out of my head.

There’s an incredibly clean one-owner early 90s Accord wagon a couple miles from me. Burgundy, has the original license plate and all.

My stepdad’s 70 442. It’s got around 70k on the clock. He bought it brand new in 1969 and has been racing it since it was a couple years old. Original unrestored paint, trim, interior and everything. It looks brand new.

You have no clue how excited I get when I see a clean Festiva or Omni or anything like that. I will take that over a car show almost any day.
